# Men's Acne & Razor Bumps: An OTC Routine

> A simple routine for men dealing with acne and razor bumps: how salicylic and mandelic acid help with breakouts, ingrown hairs, and post-shave irritation.

Yes — men can use the full Neutralyze lineup, and the salicylic + mandelic acid combination is particularly well suited to two problems men deal with most: breakouts and razor bumps.

## Why razor bumps respond to exfoliating acids

Razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae) form when shaved hairs curl back and grow into the skin, creating inflamed, acne-like bumps. Keeping the surface gently exfoliated helps hairs exit the follicle instead of getting trapped: **salicylic acid (BHA)** clears oil and dead skin inside the pore and follicle, while **mandelic acid (AHA)** exfoliates the surface and helps fade the dark marks bumps leave behind — a common concern on deeper skin tones.

## A simple routine for men

1. **Cleanse** daily (and after workouts) with the [Neutralyze Acne Face Wash](https://www.neutralyze.com/products/neutralyze-face-wash-2-0) — it works on the face, neck, chest, and back.
2. **Swipe** a [Neutralyze Exfoliating Pad](https://www.neutralyze.com/products/neutralyze-exfoliating-pads) over the beard area (once fully dry after shaving — not immediately on freshly nicked skin), and over any bump-prone areas. Start once daily.
3. **Shave smart**: use a sharp blade, shave with the grain, and don't stretch the skin.

All Neutralyze products are fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, so they won't sting the way alcohol-heavy aftershaves do on irritated skin. Patch-test for 3 days first — see [Neutralyze for Sensitive Skin](/guides/best-for-sensitive-skin).
