## Directions

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Sunburn alert:** this product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards. New users: patch-test on one or two small areas for the first 3 days.

At night, on clean, dry skin, sweep a pad gently over the face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Do not rinse. Start with 1-2 nights a week and build to daily as tolerated; if dryness, peeling, or irritation occurs, go back to 1-2 nights a week. For external use only; stop use and ask a doctor if irritation becomes severe.

## How it fits the routine

Resurfacing Pads are the REFINE step of the Neutralyze routine. On REFINE nights they take the place of the [Exfoliating Pads](/products/exfoliating-pads) - never use both on the same night, and avoid layering them with other leave-on acids. Cleanse first, then apply the pad and leave it on.

Not sure which pad you need? Acne and breakouts point to the Exfoliating Pads; texture, pores, fine lines, and lingering post-acne marks point to the Resurfacing Pads - see the full [Exfoliating vs. Resurfacing comparison](/comparisons/exfoliating-vs-resurfacing) and the [dark spots guide](/guides/dark-spots).
